We are inviting dancers, choreographers, producers, theoreticians, pedagogues, visual artists, a cook and a DJ to spend six days in September in the Museum of Contemporary Arts, Ljubljana. The intention of the meeting is to share the practices, artistic approaches and knowledge of all participants, and an invitation to co-create new projects in the future and to investigate different practices of collaboration.
We have intentionally conceptualized The Art of CoLiving as a public event that will take place in the frame of the Triennal of Contemporary Art in Slovenia named Resilience. After invitation of curator Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez we have decided to open the process of meeting, co-creating and decision making about the projects being invited to the Institute.
“How is something done?“ is what we believe to be the most important question nowadays. We therefore recognize the conditions of collaborating, creating and financing as political factors and not only as administrative or pragmatic ones. “How“ therefore defines “what“ and answers “why.“
We are shifting our focus from the product to processuality, unpredictability of the moment, transparency and the possibility to influence directly the politics of decision making within the community. We understand CoLiving as an artistic event that is at a junction of different ideas, interests and wishes, searching for new knowledge.
The event is going to be realized within the Nomad Dance Institute* programme, which is based on two mottos: “all is education“ and “new knowledge is being shared with the community.“ After six days of CoLiving, each participant of NDI will have a chance to invite other“s project or idea to be co-organized and co-financed in the future.
In the Museum we will establish “The Public Office“, a dance studio and space for discussions, watching movies and listening to music. At breakfast, a schedule of daily events will be prepared for participants and visitors of Museum to lead or follow.
CoLiving is co-organized by Nomad Dance Academy, Triennal of Contemporary Art in Slovenia U3 and MSUM, Kino Šiška, CoFestival, Dilettant and Contemporary Dance Network Slovenia.

*Nomad Dance Institute – NDI is a research program and a platform to develop new projects and ideas in contemporary performing arts from the Balkans and the wider region. It is based on two principles. Firstly, projects are not chosen by the jury, every member of NDI has a chance to invite one project; and secondly, creators of the project need to articulate the knowledge developed in an artistic process and share it with the wider interested community.
The basic goal of NDI is to realise projects using new books on hgh ways of collaboration, regardless of the aesthetic point of view or methodological approach to creation. The idea of NDI assures a flow of ideas and questions the politics of pursuing production and art.
