PLESKAVICA

Pleskavica is a contemporary dance festival. Its third edition upgrades and deepens the premises established in 2011, at the same time shifting the emphasis from the experimental to the procedural dimension and its referral to education.

The starting point of Pleskavica 2011 was to question the established festival formats and the possibilities to reconceptualise it in its pure potential. The festival artistic board comprising Dragana Alfirevič‡, Dejan Srhoj and Jasmina Založnik spent several months forming a different festival concept. Rather than a material cultural product, Pleskavica was thus made a symbolic perspective: an insight into the way how we are used to make art nowadays, which put the procedural dimension with all its variety in the centre of attention. We have created an open space for creation and exchange, which was entered by around 30 artists (dancers, choreographers, theoreticians, dramaturges, critics) from the local and international environment in ten days of the festival. Pleskavica was disseminated into diverse creative formats, some of which have already come to life while others are still being considered. Some of the outlined programme considerations resulted in partner festivals NOMAD Dance Academy, at festivals Kondenz (Belgrade), LocoMotion (Skopje) and Antistatic (Sofia). Through the Jardin d“€™Europe network, knowledge and findings are further disseminated into partner organisations from Belgium, Sweden, Israel, Romania and Hungary.

The main features of Pleskavica 2011 have been marked with the following terms: openness, procedurality, experiment, non-hierarchical, responsibility, joint decision-making, collective curating and collective authorship.

Pleskavica 2012 and 2013 has been co-creating CoFestival as its link as well as space for meetings and movement of people, ideas and projects.
